Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was arrested by the American CIA. On Monday, January 5, he appeared before a court in New York.
He is accused of collaborating with international drug cartels.
Maduro denies this and claims that the US has imperialist plans and wants Venezuelan oil.
In court, he said: “I am Nicolás Maduro. I am the president of Venezuela, and I have been held hostage here since January 3. I was kidnapped from my home in Caracas, Venezuela. I am innocent. I am a decent person.”
Maduro was charged along with his wife and son, Nicolas Ernesto Maduro Guerra, who is still in Venezuela.
The next court hearing is scheduled for March 17.
