Brno Gives Millions to Polívka’s Theatre
Brno will give the Bolek Polívka Theatre a record donation of 24 million crowns for four years. That means 6 million crowns each year. The city says it wants to support a famous actor and a cultural institution that makes Brno popular in the Czech Republic and in other countries. But critics say this is a reward for political help. Bolek Polívka has publicly supported the ODS party and the mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková. They also say it is not fair, because other private theatres get much less money. For example, another Brno theatre, Líšeň Theatre, got only 900,000 crowns for this year and next year together. In the past, Bolek Polívka got around 11 million crowns from the European Union for his farm. But the project was not successful, and the farm went bankrupt.

Brno poskytne Divadlu Bolka Polívky na čtyři roky rekordní dotaci 24 milionů korun. To znamená 6 milionů korun každý rok. Město tak chce podle svých slov podpořit slavného herce a kulturní instituci, která dělá Brno populárním v České republice i v dalších zemích. Kritici ale tvrdí, že jde o odměnu za politickou pomoc. Bolek Polívka totiž veřejně podpořil stranu ODS a primátorku Brna Markétu Vaňkovou. Není to prý ani spravedlivé, protože ostatní soukromá divadla dostávají mnohem méně peněz. Například další brněnské divadlo, Divadlo Líšeň, dostalo na letošní a příští rok dohromady jen 900 tisíc korun. V minulosti dostal Bolek Polívka na svou farmu z Evropské unie kolem 11 milionů korun. Projekt ale nebyl úspěšný a farma zkrachovala.
