Crossing Paths – Episode 8: Over a Beer, Part 1
It’s Sunday evening. Thomas is entering a cozy bar not far from downtown. Philip is already sitting at a table near the window, scrolling through his phone. Thomas spots him and walks over.
Thomas: Hey, man. Sorry I’m late.
Philip: Hey, Tom. No worries. I just got here a few minutes ago.
Thomas: This place is nice.
Philip: Yeah, also, they have good beer.
Thomas: Sounds perfect!
Waiter: What can I get you?
Philip: Lager, please.
Thomas: Yeah, for me too. Thanks.
Waiter: Coming right up.
Philip: So… how’s everything going so far?
Thomas: Pretty good. Still settling in, though.
Philip: It takes time, doesn’t it. Oh, before I forget, Maggie says hello.
Thomas: Oh, thanks. How is she?
Philip: She’s good. She’d like to see you too but she’s on a conference in Finland this week.
Thomas: Finland? Wow. Does she travel a lot?
Philip: Not so much. But this was a special occasion.
Narrator: Thomas and Philip chat over a beer like in the old days. After a while, the conversation shifts to work.
Thomas: Well, actually, I think the interview went quite well.
Philip: Yeah? That’s good.
Thomas: I guess you know Noa Berger. She seems to be quite sharp. I liked her. I really feel like I could do a solid job there.
Philip: Yeah, I’m sure.
Thomas: Thanks again for letting me know.
Philip: Of course. Actually… I probably shouldn’t tell you but after the interview, Noa called me to ask about you.
Thomas: Haha, I see.
Philip: I know you didn’t want me to tell her anything before the interview, but you told her you’d got the info from me.
Thomas: I know. I wanted to be completely honest with her.
Philip: Well, I can tell you, you made a really good impression. I think you’re the hottest candidate.
Thomas: That’s good to hear. It feels like the right time to get back into it.
Philip: I’ll drink to that!
