Crossing Paths – Episode 8: Over a Beer, Part 2

The bar is getting a little busier around Thomas and Philip. They’re sitting at the table, sipping beer and talking about life.

Thomas: It’s really good to hear you and Maggie are still together.

Philip: Yeah… she’s the best thing that ever happened to me. I mean, at least that’s what she says. A lot.

Thomas: I think she’s right. I remember what you were like before you started dating her.

Philip: Yeah… things were kinda wild back then. But that was a long time ago. We were all idiots.

Thomas: Yeah, absolutely.

Philip: Nah, seriously… I know how lucky I am. I really do. I honestly thought you and Anna would stay together too.

Thomas: Yeah… me too. I think it was mostly my fault it didn’t work out.

Philip: What do you mean?

Thomas: Well, I was always working. I never had time for her. Even when we were traveling, I was always on my laptop or my phone.

Philip: Well, you were running the whole company. No wonder you didn’t have time.

Thomas: Not the whole company…

Philip: Yeah, okay, most of it. I don’t think Rodrigo was working as much as you were. I think he was more of a thinker than a manager.

Thomas: That’s true… but he was the brains behind the whole thing. SymphCloud wouldn’t have worked without him. And now he’s marrying Anna.

Philip: Wait, what?

Thomas: Yeah. She called me on Monday. Rodrigo proposed.

Philip: That bastard!

Thomas: It’s fine. Really. I wish them the best.

Philip: Did he ever contact you?

Thomas: Nope. Haven’t talked to him in years.

Philip: I had a bad feeling about him from the start. And I’m rarely wrong about that.

Narrator: They keep talking as the evening goes on.

Philip: Oh really, Helen? Helen Brooks? Man, you’re not wasting any time.

Thomas: It was just a coincidence. We ran into each other on the street. It was really nice seeing her.

Philip: I bet it was. I’m guessing you had a lot to talk about.

Thomas: Well, we didn’t have much time. But we were supposed to meet yesterday.

Philip: Oh yeah? Did you?

Thomas: Nope. She canceled last minute. Said something came up.

Philip: Oh… okay. Did she say what?

Thomas: Not really. Just that it was important.

Philip: I see… Actually, I ran into her a couple months ago. I mean, she’s still hot.

Thomas: Yeah… she is.

Philip: Oh man… you’d still give it a shot, wouldn’t you?

Thomas: I don’t know. When I saw her, I thought, maybe we could try again. But, well, she’s seeing someone.

Philip: Oh right, what’s his name? Mike? Mark?

Thomas: Mark. Mark Grayson. You know him?

Philip: Not really. She was with him when I saw her. He seemed alright.

Thomas: Yeah… I guess you can’t step into the same river twice.

Philip: Yeah… well, there’s plenty more fish in the sea, right?

Thomas: I’ll drink to that!
