Crossing Paths – Episode 13: Dirty Martini – Part 2

It’s Monday evening. Helen and Clara are sitting in The Steel Fox, a busy cocktail bar. They are waiting for their drinks to come and talking.

Helen: Well yeah, I used to go to the gym, but I haven’t been in about six months.

Clara: Really? I’ve actually been thinking about joining a gym. Why don’t we go together?

Helen: Sounds good! I’d like that. I really like Bomber Gym, and it’s not far from the office.

Clara: Yeah, I know where it is. We could just go there after work.

Helen: Yeah, that’d be great. I really need to start working out again. I’m so out of shape.

Clara: Yeah, right, that’s why every single guy we meet can’t take his eyes off you.

Helen: That’s not true!

Clara: Oh, please. I’m not blind. I see the way they look at you!

Waiter: Alright, ladies. Here are your cocktails.

Helen: Thank you.

Clara: Thanks. They look great. Cheers!

Helen: Cheers!… Oh, God.

Clara: Is it good?

Helen: It’s absolutely disgusting…

Clara: Haha. Let me try… Oh my God. That’s really bad.

Helen: Well… I ordered it. I’ll finish it.

Clara: Don’t be ridiculous. We’ll get you something that doesn’t taste like dirty socks.

Helen: No, it’s okay. I’ll handle it.

(The waiter notices Helen’s expression and walks over.)

Waiter: Is everything alright? Is there a problem with the cocktails?

Helen: No, everything’s fine.

Clara: Well… there’s no problem. We just ordered a dirty martini without knowing what a dirty martini tastes like.

Waiter: Oh… I see. A dirty martini is just a regular martini with a splash of olive brine. I should’ve explained that first, but… you looked so confident.

Helen: Haha… yeah. I’m not really a cocktail person.

Waiter: You know what? I feel like that’s my fault. Let me take that one back and bring you something else. It’s on the house.

Helen: Oh, that’s so nice of you.

Waiter: No problem. Would you like a recommendation?

Helen: Yes, please. Something sweet… and maybe a little spicy.

Waiter: Sweet and spicy? How about a Spiced Piña Colada? It’s like a regular piña colada, but made with spiced rum. I’m pretty sure you’ll love it.

Helen: That sounds great.

Waiter: Awesome. I’ll be right back.

Helen: Thank you!

Clara: Ha! I told you.

Helen: Told me what?

Clara: Did you see the way he was looking at you?

Helen: Yeah… like I was a complete idiot?

Clara: Haha, no. He’s clearly into you.

Helen: Oh, stop it.
