Crossing Paths – Episode 3: Not Mad, Are You?
It’s Tuesday evening. Thomas is in his apartment, unpacking boxes and trying to make the place feel like home. The room is quiet. He pauses and looks around. His phone rings. He checks the screen and hesitates for a moment. Then he answers.
Thomas: Hi, Anna.
Anna: Hey. Is it a good time to talk?
Thomas: Yeah, sure. I was just unpacking.
Anna: So it’s official. You’re really staying there?
Thomas: I think so.
Anna: It’s good to be back, isn’t it?
Thomas: Yeah. I’ve already run into a few people from the past. I didn’t realize how much I missed this place.
Anna: That’s great. I’m glad for you. You had enough traveling, didn’t you?
Thomas: Yeah. It was enough, but I really enjoyed it. It was your idea, after all.
Anna: Yeah, you listened to me for once.
Thomas: I did, didn’t I?
Anna: Have you found a place to stay?
Thomas: Yeah, I’m renting a small apartment near downtown.
Anna: That’s good. I guess you’re looking for a job, right?
Thomas: Yeah. I’ve got a couple of interviews next week.
Anna: That’s cool. I know you’d go crazy if you had nothing to do. Just don’t overdo it, okay?
Thomas: Don’t worry. I learned my lesson.
Anna: That’s good. I mean… it must be hard to start from scratch.
Thomas: Nah. No big deal. It’s a fresh start. I’ll manage.
Anna: I know you will.
Thomas: Anyway, how about you? Everything good?
Anna: Yeah. Everything’s going according to plan.
Thomas: Good. I’m glad to hear that.
Anna: Rodrigo proposed.
Thomas: Oh… That’s… that’s great. Congratulations.
Anna: Thanks. It’s going to be a small wedding. Just the four of us. Las Vegas style.
Thomas: Wow. Okay. I won’t be offended if I don’t get an invite.
Anna: Don’t be. So, you’re not mad, are you?
Thomas: No. Of course not. Just surprised. That was quick.
Anna: Quick? We’ve been together a year now. You think he should’ve waited another four years? Like you did?
Thomas: …
Anna: I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.
Thomas: It’s fine.
Anna: No, really. That wasn’t fair.
Thomas: It’s okay. I know I messed up.
Anna: We both did.
Thomas: Anyway, believe it or not, I’m really happy for you two.
Anna: Thanks, Thomas. And listen… if you ever need anything, you know you can call me.
Thomas: I appreciate that. But I’ll be alright.
Anna: I know you will… It was nice talking to you.
Thomas: Yeah. You too.
Anna: Take care of yourself.
Thomas: I will. And… congratulations again.
Anna: Thanks. Bye, Thomas.
Thomas: Bye.
